- How Do I Prepare My Files For Print?
We accept files created in InDesign CS3 (or previous versions), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, QuarkExpress6 and Adobe PDF.
Please keep in mind that in spite of all the advances in graphic design and printing, the better the photograph the better the print. Make your image changes before importing into the page layout program (InDesign, QuarkExpress). To reduce the use of memory that your computer will consume which may cause output difficulties; scale, crop, manipulate and rotate your images in Photoshop or Illustrator.
The color mode best suited for press is CMYK. Be sure to save in the following formats: EPS (encoding should be set to binary or ASCII, not JPEG), TIFF or JPEG only if using the maximum setting. Not using the max settings will result in your image losing quality.
Submit Hi-Res images. 300 dpi or greater is recommended for print. Scan your images at 100%. (If your design requires a 4"x6" scan at 100% with a res of 300 dpi.) Do not use images from the web. Most all web images are 72 dpi and are compressed. These images are not sufficient for press. Do not convert low-res images into high-res. Often this is done in Adobe Photoshop by using "Image Size" and checking the "Resample Image". If your image is 72 dpi and you want to increase the dpi, the proper way is to deselect the "Resample Image" option and change the resolution to 300 dpi. This will result in a smaller "Document Size". It will preserve the original pixel dimensions.
Link all graphics. Embedding graphics into your document is not recommended. This creates large document files which are often difficult to print and may add additional cost to your job. Linking files is the safest way to include graphics.
All fonts must be submitted with your job to ensure that your text will flow correctly. Some programs allow you to apply styles (italic, bold, bold-italic) to a plain font. Do not use this option. For instance, if you need Helvetica Bold, use Helvetica Bold and not the Helvetica Book font styled Bold.
- What Is A Bleed?
Bleed is the amount of information that extends beyond your printed piece so that when it is cut down the result is a seamless appearance of the image "bleeding" off the edge.
- Spot Color and CMYK.
-
Any RGB color specifications and images must be converted to CMYK. Be sure to indicate all your colors in CMYK to begin with, and convert all images to CMYK to avoid color shifts and substitutions.
Use the same spot color throughout your job. PMS123cv and PMS123cvu will not separate as the same color.
Monitors vary widely in how they display colors. What you see on your monitor may be different from your printed piece. Spot colors will match the PMS book but not necessarily your screen.
- Final Proofing.
We will provide our customers with pdf or digital proofs. Proofreading is done before submitting to the customer. We will not print any job without the customers final approval. Please take the time to inspect your proof before final approval is given.
